Lethal Company has just rolled out a major new update featuring a host of fresh content, including additional monsters and its debut vehicle, the Company Cruiser. Players can now utilize this van to flatten enemies or even teammates who are being a nuisance. It’s currently the sole vehicle available in the game, offering the most efficient means to transport scrap from the facility back to your ship.
Version 55 is now accessible on Steam’s beta branch, allowing players to experience all the latest additions firsthand and provide feedback on any bugs or issues they encounter. Developer Zeekerss has committed to refining and perfecting the update in the coming days before its official release. “I’ll be working on improvements and fixes until I’m confident they enhance rather than detract from the gameplay experience,” Zeekerss stated in a recent blog post. “I hope you enjoy the new features!”
Full update notes are available here, highlighting standout features such as two new entities and the introduction of the drivable van. Among the new monsters is The Barber, a whimsically crafted blue clay figure armed with oversized scissors—though the humor fades when it attempts to slice players in half. This elusive entity can turn invisible outside of players’ direct line of sight and teleport unpredictably to close the gap.
If that wasn’t spine-chilling enough, it turns out every Barber is synchronized to a “conductor” known as the Master Barber, who emits eerie parade-like music. Pay close attention to the rhythm—the snare drum signals an imminent attack, offering a clue to their next move. Beware, they typically roam in pairs, so stay vigilant.
Adding to the terror is the Kidnapper Fox, aptly named for its method of ambush. These cunning creatures lurk within clusters of Vain Shroud (those ominous red bushes), lying in wait to ensnare players. Instead of outright killing, they latch onto victims with their tongues, dragging them back to a Vain Shroud for a fatal conclusion. If caught, quick action with a weapon can stun them into releasing you.
However, dispatching these foes isn’t straightforward. As one player remarked in a Steam chat forum, “It takes quite a few shovel hits to bring them down (maybe too many? I’m not sure, maybe I missed some shots due to their elusive hitbox).”
For those of us already wary of the Baboon Hawks, confronting another hostile entity capable of infiltrating our ships and delivering a swift demise adds an exhilaratingly terrifying twist to the game.
Zeekerss has been on a roll with recent updates, each one building on the last. The previous update, v50, introduced the unexpectedly endearing enemy known as The Butler, a creature reminiscent of a blob fish. It also made crucial adjustments to running speeds. As with v50, balancing the new entities will likely require additional tweaking, so if you want to avoid severe setbacks, it’s advisable to steer clear of the beta version for now.
